Female teachers are at the same mesothelioma-risk like all other women. Teachers who are female may be at a slightly higher risk from occupational exposure. Studies show that a significant proportion of mesotheliomas among females could be caused by childhood exposure to asbestos in the classroom. While the number of female mesotheliomas in women has significantly decreased in the last decade however, the mortality rate is lower than in the 1950s and 1960s.
