Studies show that a large proportion of female mesotheliomas could be caused by childhood exposure to asbestos in schools. Despite the fact that the rate of mesotheliomas among females have declined significantly over the past few decades, the rate of mortality is still much lower than what it was in the 1950s and 1960s.
